Title of position: Highway Operations Technician I-Trainee

Annual Salary: $49,866 for non-Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holders. If hired Graham County offers paid CDL training and covers the cost of tuition to attend CDL classes through Eastern Arizona College.

Description of responsibilities:
· Operates a variety of light to heavy equipment engaged in highway maintenance, repair, and construction activities, including street rollers, tractors, dump trucks, mowers, pickups, and similar equipment, jackhammer, powered and non-powered hand tools.
· Performs patching, crack sealing, seal coating, loading, hauling materials.
· Equipment transporting, operates a tractor equipped with grass cutting attachments motor grader, heavy front-end loader, tandem truck, or related equipment; blades gravel roads.
· Lays and patches blacktop.
· Loads gravel, dirt, and sand.
· Performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks related to maintenance, including grading, shaping, digging, and loading.
· Performs servicing and field maintenance or running repairs on heavy equipment.
· Operates any and all types of light to heavy duty construction, maintenance, or repair equipment as assigned.
· This position responds to emergency callout within thirty minutes and may be placed on call during emergencies or inclement pending weather.
· Position requires exposure to extreme weather conditions as well as hazardous traffic conditions depending on the assignment.
· Performs other duties as required.
Required experience: Combination of training and experience that meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position and two years of an equivalent position.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; current CDL (class A) Permit with tanker (N) endorsement; upon hire must be enrolled in the CDL Program with Eastern Arizona College (EAC) for the next available session. Ability to obtain the CDL driving portion within the first 6 months of employment or as EAC allows completion. Combination of training and experience that meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position and one year of an equivalent position. Candidates for this position must complete the driver’s license information on the Employment Application at the time the application is turned in, which will allow Graham County to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR). The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with Graham County Policy. The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by Graham County. Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.
**Must be able to respond to call outs within 30 minutes. **
