Veterinary Healthcare Associates (VHA) is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Specialty Surgery Veterinary Technician to join our growing Specialty Surgery team. In this role, you will provide advanced nursing care throughout the surgical process, including patient preparation, anesthesia monitoring, intraoperative support, postoperative recovery, and client education.

Prepare surgical patients, equipment, and operating suites for procedures

Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery

Maintain sterile technique and support surgeons during procedures

Perform preoperative diagnostics and patient assessments

Monitor and care for postoperative patients, ensuring safe recovery and comfort

Administer medications and treatments as directed

Transfer patients to ICU and provide detailed medical handoffs

Educate clients regarding surgical procedures, discharge instructions, and postoperative care

Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation

Assist with surgical inventory, equipment maintenance, and quality control processes

Collaborate with surgeons, technicians, and hospital teams to provide exceptional patient care

Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, or LVT) preferred; highly experienced veterinary technicians will be considered

Minimum of 3 years of experience in specialty, emergency, critical care, or surgical veterinary medicine

Expert-level anesthesia skills, including induction, monitoring, recovery, and management of anesthetic complications

Expert-level surgical nursing skills, including patient preparation, sterile assistance, intraoperative support, and postoperative care

Advanced critical care nursing skills, including patient assessment, pain management, advanced monitoring, and emergency response

Demonstrated proficiency performing preoperative diagnostics, catheter placement, medication administration, and advanced nursing procedures

Proven ability to independently manage complex surgical and anesthesia cases in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment

Exceptional communication, organization, and teamwork skills

Commitment to clinical excellence and continuous professional growth

Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Anesthesia & Analgesia or Emergency & Critical Care, or active pursuit of specialty certification

Fear Free and/or Low-Stress Handling certification

Experience working alongside board-certified surgeons in a specialty practice

Experience mentoring veterinary technicians and assistants

Knowledge of OSHA, AAHA, and veterinary regulatory standards
