Our small but dedicated immigration and criminal defense law firm is seeking a Bilingual Legal Assistant (Spanish/English) to join our team.
MUST BE FULLY FLUENT IN SPANISH (spoken and written)
We strongly prefer candidates with at least 2 years of experience in immigration law and/or criminal defense, particularly in removal defense or USCIS matters. However, we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates exceptional work ethic, organization, and commitment.
Position Details
Position: Bilingual Legal Assistant
Location: Phoenix, Arizona (85014 — near 7th St & Camelback)
Job Type: Full-Time, In-Office
Key Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with preparation and filing of immigration applications, including:
- Family-based petitions
- Removal defense filings
- Asylum applications
- Bond motions and supporting evidence
- USCIS submissions
- Support cases involving criminal-immigration (“crimmigration”) issues
- Conduct client intakes and interviews in Spanish and English
- Provide translation and interpretation as needed
- Maintain accurate, organized physical and electronic client files
- Track deadlines and ensure timely filings with courts and agencies
- Communicate with clients, government agencies, detention facilities, and court personnel
- Assist with evidence collection and case preparation
- Perform administrative duties, including scheduling, correspondence, and general office support
Qualifications
- Fluency in Spanish and English (required — both written and spoken)
- Prior experience in immigration law and/or criminal defense strongly preferred
- Experience with removal defense, asylum, bonds, or detained cases is highly desirable
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Professional, reliable, and punctual
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Comfortable working directly with clients from diverse backgrounds
