Description of Division
The Division of Student Life provides programs, services, and support for NCSSM. Areas in Student Life are: Counseling Services, Student Services, Campus Safety and Security, Residence Education, Housing, Dining, Physical Activity and Wellness, Student Health Services, Student Conduct, and the School Store. The Division of Student Life provides support for all non-academic needs of the 680 students in the Durham residential program (ex: housing, dining, counseling, medical). The division accepts the responsibility of “in loco parentis” for the students and serves as the caretaker/guardian for students while they reside on our campus. The division partners with other departments and divisions on campus as well as families to provide a balanced and holistic experience for NCSSM Students.
The mission of the NCSSM Physical Activity and Wellness Department is to provide a variety of activities that will reach all students and influence lifetime decisions and create a healthy lifestyle via our courses, programs, activities, and athletic programs.
NCSSM offers an interscholastic athletic program in the following sports for both men and women: soccer, basketball, tennis, cross-country, swimming and diving, track and field, cheerleading, and golf; baseball and wrestling for men; softball and volleyball for women.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related experience.
Description of Duties:
Work 15-25 hours a week on average. Work schedule may include Weekdays 3-8pm and/or Weekends Noon-5 pm. The position would be off during school holidays, extended weekends and breaks, and over the summer.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
– Supervise Physical Education Center on weekday afternoons, evenings and weekends as necessary.
– Enforce rules of the PEC and complete rounds to ensure the safety of all participants in the building.
– Assist with Intramural programs supervision.
– Provide support for coaches, students and other employees while using the facility.
Varsity Game Administration:
– Collect money at game admission gates to include reconciling money and ticket sales for deposit.
– Assist with setting up and cleaning up after events.
– Assist with supervision of student campus service.
– Other duties as assigned by the Director of Physical Activity and Wellness and/or designee.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent customer service skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
