Title: Powertrain Engineer
Reports to: CTO
Do you like unmanned aircraft (UAV’s)? The industry requires professionally designed engines for high end aircraft in manned airspace. HFE Is a leading manufacturer supplying more than 28 countries with UAV engines. HFE has exciting opportunities to see your hard work go into hundreds of different aircraft around the world. This opportunity is for a powertrain engineer or mechanical engineer who can support the testing, new product development and calibration of new production engine systems as well as lead a group of test engineers.
Job Purpose:
To test, develop and troubleshoot propulsion systems for the company and customers.
Responsibilities include the following:
· Engine simulation
· EFI Calibration
· Dyno Testing
· New Product Testing and Evaluation
Management of test engineers.
Minimum Qualifications
· Experience with engine designs (preferably 2 stroke)
· Experience with engine tuning and EFI calibration maps
· Demonstrated knowledge of Scientific Process
MS. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
· Knowledge of combustion process and thermodynamics
· Basic understanding of engines (2 stroke and 4 stroke)
· MATLAB experience
Python experience
· National Instruments data acquisition hardware and analysis
Preferred Qualifications
· 10 years of powertrain related experience
Combustion analysis
· Experience using GT Power (GT Suite)
· Experience using Solidworks
· Experience using revision management software (Solidworks Vault)
Educational Requirements
MS, or PhD. in Engineering or Physics

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Developing engine systems and sub systems
- Design and develop new engines
- Run engines on the dyno and calibrate EFI system maps
- Write test plans
- Write test reports
- Interface with the customer and support them with their questions about the engine package design
- Travel to customers site and support engine diagnostics (international travel is common)
- Diagnose failure modes

- Documentation, drawings, and test reports as requested

1. This position involves engine noise levels that are within OSHA guidelines as long as the employee wears the proper PPE while the engine is in operation.
2. This position involves transporting of documents and parts to various customers and vendors in the Tucson area. Transportation within the Tucson areas will not be compensated for. Any travel outside of Tucson will be compensated for with standard GSA approved travel and lodging rates.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
