About the Role
As a Teacher at Callahan Learning Center, you will help prepare young learners for kindergarten by gently introducing them to structured education in a nurturing and engaging environment. You’ll guide children through foundational academic concepts while supporting their social, emotional, and cognitive development.
We are looking for an educator who is patient, creative, and knowledgeable in preschool best practices. The ideal candidate builds trust easily with children, fosters curiosity, and creates a classroom where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to learn.

Key Responsibilities
- Create a nurturing classroom environment that supports the whole child and prepares students for Kindergarten
- Foster children’s natural curiosity through storytelling, play-based learning, and interactive educational activities
- Support social-emotional growth and help children build confidence and self-esteem
- Encourage positive peer and teacher interactions
- Guide children in developing artistic, practical, and cognitive skills through a thoughtfully planned curriculum
- Organize and supervise nap times and meals
- Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times
- Track and communicate children’s progress digitally with families
- Maintain regular, professional communication with parents
- Collaborate with team members and center leadership
- Maintain a clean, organized classroom in accordance with Virginia health and safety standards
Qualifications
- Meet teacher qualifications per Virginia Licensing Standards (8VAC20-780-210)
- Post-secondary education in a child-related field (preferred)
- Minimum of 6 months classroom teaching experience in a licensed preschool
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to move freely throughout the classroom and work at a child’s level
- Ability to lift 35–40 pounds
Required (Non-Negotiable) Criteria
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Ability to pass and maintain criminal background checks, drug screening, and Child Protective Services Registry review
- Meet Virginia Standard Qualifications (8VAC20-780-180)
- Professional communication skills with children, families, staff, and management
- A genuine love for children and a commitment to their wellness, growth, and education
