Position Summary
The CIS Site Coordinator serves as the connection point between Communities in Schools of Wayne County (CISWC), the partner school, students, families, community organizations, volunteers, and service providers.
Working within the school, the Site Coordinator identifies barriers that may be affecting a student’s success and connects students and families with the support and resources they need. This may include monitoring student progress, building individualized support plans, coordinating community services, communicating with families and school staff, and documenting student outcomes.
The Site Coordinator also develops and manages the school’s annual CIS site plan, maintains program data, evaluates the effectiveness of services, and ensures that students receive consistent support based on their individual level of need.
Responsibilities and Working Relationships
School-Based Program Coordination
- Develop an annual site plan for delivering CIS services in partnership with school faculty and building-level partners.
- Regularly bring together school partners, community organizations, and service providers to develop strategies, coordinate services, and monitor student outcomes.
- Monitor agreements with service providers and volunteers to ensure that students, families, schools, and community partners fully benefit from the services provided.
- Serve as the primary communication link between CISWC, the school, students, families, community agencies, service providers, and the Site Advisory Committee.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy rights of students and families.
Data Collection and Reporting
- Gather, enter, and analyze student and family data for individual student evaluation and overall program evaluation.
- Provide requested data and reports to CISWC and/or the school principal at specified times. Monthly reporting is required.
- Document student interventions, participation, progress, and outcomes, including attendance, behavior, and academic performance.
- Use student data to evaluate current strategies and adjust support when needed.
Time and Schedule Management
- Work within the allotted hours provided under the 10-month agreement with CISWC.
- Manage time and responsibilities appropriately to avoid exceeding the assigned hours.
Student Support and Intervention
- Identify and connect targeted students with supportive services that help them succeed in school and graduate from high school.
- Build positive, consistent relationships with students while monitoring their attendance, behavior, academic progress, and overall engagement in school.
- Provide different levels of support based on each student’s needs and risk factors.
Basic Intervention
Basic intervention is generally provided through weekly or monthly contact with a student. Responsibilities may include:
- Sharing general information with the student about the school and CIS monitoring process.
- Providing regular feedback about the student’s progress at school.
- Regularly discussing the importance and benefits of staying in school.
- Helping the student problem-solve barriers or risk factors that may affect school success.
Intensive Intervention
Intensive intervention is provided to students with higher levels of need, such as students who are failing classes, experiencing suspension, or facing other significant barriers to school success. Responsibilities may include:
- Contacting the student daily when needed, including phone calls to encourage or confirm school attendance.
- Developing an Individualized Student Support Plan.
- Determining the student’s risk factors.
- Identifying the student’s strengths and existing support systems.
- Connecting the student with appropriate school or community support systems.
- Following up on the student’s participation in referred services.
- Documenting student outcomes, including attendance, behavior, and academic performance.
Skills and Abilities
- Must be persistent, believe that all students have abilities, and be committed to helping students overcome barriers.
- Must be able to work closely with families using a non-blaming approach.
- Must be willing to advocate for students, document interventions, monitor progress, and adjust strategies as needed.
- Ability to work comfortably with a broad range of individuals, including representatives from businesses, public and private organizations, schools, community organizations, parent groups, and local government.
- Sensitivity to the needs of youth and diverse ethnic populations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty described above.
Education
- High school diploma required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or demonstrated relevant equivalent experience in social services, education, or a related field.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, school personnel, parents, and community partners.
Computer Skills
· Ability to utilize internet communication through email, use electronic data management systems, and use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to create reports.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Licenses, Registration
- Current Driver’s License.

Pay: $16.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
