We are looking for an Estimator to join our team!
The Estimator is responsible for the successful bidding and winning of water, storm, sewer, wastewater treatment plant, duct bank, asphalt, roadway, concrete, and other similar civil projects. Estimators are responsible for the bid process from start to finish with minor oversight. Successful candidates for this role have the desire to be a leader and advance in their career, work well with and mentor others, and carry a sense of urgency coupled with high attention to detail.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Monitor bid invitation platforms and estimating inboxes to identify and pursue qualified project opportunities.
- Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to develop a thorough understanding of project scope and requirements.
- Conduct site visits and pre-bid walkthroughs as needed to evaluate project conditions and support estimate accuracy.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed cost estimates using HCSS HeavyBid and other estimating tools.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate pricing with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to develop competitive bids.
- Prepare proposals, communicate with clients throughout the bidding process, and negotiate project scope as needed.
- Track and report bid activity, project opportunities, and estimating status during weekly review meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the estimating and business development functions.

What You Need To Be Successful:
- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or relevant field.
- Minimum of 2‐5 years of relevant progressively responsible experience.
- 1‐2 years observing underground utility conduit field work as a PE/PM/Super.
- Experience in utilities, infrastructure, and heavy construction work including but not limited to: wastewater treatment plants, structured concrete, storm drains, asphalt and paving.
- Good written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
- Negotiation skills.
- Ability to develop strong customer relations using a “customer first” attitude, with both customers and vendors
- Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
- A proven “self-starter” that works with limited oversight and direction.
- Ability to work overtime as needed, and perform duties assigned by supervisor.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and is able to create schedules with MS Project.
- Strong mathematical aptitude and abilities.
- Understanding of estimates, budgets and job costing.

Occasionally lifts and/or carries up to 50 pounds, including items such as plans, specifications, and files. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
