Job Overview:
The Lead Budtender plays a critical role in day-to-day dispensary operations and acts as the first point of contact for frontline management decisions. This role ensures smooth operations on the sales floor, supports team performance, and upholds compliance and customer service standards. Lead Budtenders are expected to take initiative, guide their peers, and step in to assist wherever needed, particularly during high-volume times.
This position includes opening and closing responsibilities as required, with a primary focus on closing shifts. The Lead Budtender, based off needs, is expected to close the store both Saturday and Sunday nights.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Floor Support:
- Serve as the liaison between Budtenders and Assistant Managers.
- Provide coaching, motivation, and ongoing support to team members.
- Assist in onboarding and training new Budtenders (shadowing and support).
- Monitor the sales floor to ensure all team members are at their assigned stations and engaged.
- Coordinate Budtender breaks and facilitate POS station changes as needed.
Store Operations & Oversight:
- Open and close the store when required, especially on weekends.
- Oversee the setup and breakdown of the sales floor at open and close.
- Ensure proper POS procedures, including drawer assignments and station closures.
- Assist in product movement during opening and closing.
- Support daily operations and step in where needed, including covering registers.
- Submit shift reports summarizing sales trends, staff notes, and any incidents.
Customer Experience & Compliance:
- Handle customer concerns or complaints professionally, escalating when necessary.
- Ensure Budtenders provide accurate product information and consistent service.
- Educate Budtenders on products and address any misinformation.
- Monitor compliance with all cannabis regulations, including ID checks and daily limits.
- Promote a welcoming, compliant, and inclusive environment for customers and staff.
Menu, Inventory, & Cash Oversight:
- Perform regular menu audits to ensure product names, THC content, and descriptions are accurate.
- Assist in light inventory tasks, including organizing products for display.
- Support loss prevention and monitor for suspicious behavior or activity.
- Aid in cash handling procedures, including safe drops and POS reconciliation when necessary.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Minimum 1+ month of experience as a Budtender required.
· Prior leadership experience in retail or hospitality is preferred.
· Strong knowledge of cannabis products and willingness to stay updated on new offerings.
· Experience using POS systems; ability to troubleshoot or train others.
· Comfortable standing and moving throughout entire shift.
· Highly organized, punctual, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset.
· Ability to lead by example, especially under pressure.
HOURS REQUIRED:
- Must be able to work evenings, nights and weekends.
- Closing shifts a must, 4pm-12:30am.
