Job Summary
The South Lake Tahoe Tour Guide will prepare for upcoming kayak tours and ensure everything is set up correctly. This includes reviewing upcoming activities and taking steps to ensure tours run smoothly, safely, and on schedule. The role involves coordinating with guests before and during tours, explaining safety guidelines and what guests should expect, and assisting with getting guests properly prepared and outfitted. The guide will also provide instruction during the tour, respond to questions, and help keep the experience enjoyable.
The tour guide is responsible for monitoring guest participation and safety, recognizing and addressing hazards or issues that arise, and handling emergency situations according to the proper protocol. They will communicate with other team members and departments to address scheduling or operational changes, complete required paperwork and records, and maintain the equipment used for rentals. The position also includes general support duties as needed, including helping train or assist other staff and supporting pre-season preparation and daily reporting.
Responsibilities
- Arrive on time to the clock-in location
- Check weather conditions and determine operating limitations (as needed)
- Inspect vehicles/trailers
- Be prepared to ride into partner company shuttle or truck
- Drive truck and trailer to site of scheduled tour if qualified and assigned
- Check for and prepare for any reservations using company booking software
- Communicate with management team and reservations office about any changes in scheduling or weather
- Attend a mandatory daily briefing
- Set-up and inspect equipment
- Communicate with guests prior to arrival in person or via phone in the absence of support staff
- Facilitate the arrival of pre-scheduled guests into the park and coordinate with shuttle driver
- Ensure guests have been outfitted with proper equipment
- Provide basic safety lecture and basic instruction prior to participation in activity
- Assist guests with entering and exiting vessels
- Conduct scheduled tour while providing tour information as necessary
- Be capable of receiving/issuing upgrades and tour material accurately without notes
- Respond to emergencies on the water
- Report concerns regarding active rentals to rental staff
- Implement Emergency Action Plans when necessary
- Conduct routine safety and maintenance checks
- Communicate with other departments
- Help train new team members
- Answer questions and help provide recommendations to guests
- Maintain a positive and upbeat attitude
- Ensure all guests have an enjoyable experience
- Facilitate check-in and check-outs
- Attend safety drills and trainings
- Regularly inspect and clean equipment
- Prepare for pre-season
- Help assemble equipment when necessary
- Complete daily reports

Qualifications
- Must be fluent in English (Bilingual preferred)
- 2+ years in customer service experience (required)
- American Red Cross First Aid/CPR
- Lifeguard Certification
- ACA Kayak Certification (preferred)
- Paramedic license (preferred)
- EMT certification (preferred)
- Boating license (preferred)
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
