Summary: The skills instructor will teach, on a contractual basis, specific components of the certified nursing course: the GNA Skills leading to certification. The skills instructor is responsible for planning and conducting educationally valuable activities in the skills lab, for making assignments of student work, and for evaluating the students’ progress. The Skills Lab Instructor works closely with the Program Coordinator to ensure Skills lab instruction is aligned with CNA theory instructions.
The course instructor will:
§ Be familiar with and enforce all rules and regulations of the Caroline Center.
§ Participate in the development and evaluation of those components of the training program for which s/he is responsible.
§ Provide skills instruction leading to CNA certification for not more than 29 students for 6 classes a week for a period of 14 weeks.
§ Assure that students are prepared for the clinical component of the course.
§ Maintain skills list record for each student.
§ Assure that skills lab maintains sufficient supplies and equipment.
§ Advise and supervise students in use/care of medical equipment and supplies.
§ Communicate with student, course instructor, and Assistant Director any concerns regarding student progress in classroom and skills performance.
§ Maintain accurate grade book and submit to CNA/GNA Program Coordinator at end of course.
Qualifications
§ Commitment to the mission, values and policies of Caroline Center and the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
§ Current MD nursing license RN or higher. At least two (2) years of nursing experience, with a minimum of one (1) year of this experience specifically in the care for the elderly or chronically ill within the past five (5) years.
§ Ability to relate to a variety of constituencies: adult students, volunteers, and employers.
§ Flexible, organized, creative thinker, problem solver, planner.
· Enjoys working as part of a team.
· Good oral and written communications skills.
The candidate works 16 hrs. per week.
