Position Summary
The Journeyman HVAC Installer is responsible for the installation, assembly, and start-up of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems on commercial and residential projects. This role ensures work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, building codes, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, assemble, and test HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, equipment, and controls.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.
- Ensure all installations meet local, state, and federal codes as well as company quality standards.
- Perform start-up, troubleshooting, and adjustments of HVAC systems.
- Collaborate with project managers, foremen, and other trades to ensure project timelines are met.
- Train and mentor apprentices and less experienced installers.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe condition.
- Complete required job documentation, timesheets, and reports accurately and on time.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school preferred.
- Minimum 4 years of progressive HVAC installation experience; journeyman level certification/licensing (as required by state/local jurisdiction).
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, components, and controls.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
- Proficient in use of hand tools, power tools, and testing instruments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform physical tasks in varying weather conditions.
- Extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
