Mackey Heating & Air Conditioning is seeking a skilled, motivated HVAC Installer / Service Technician to join our team.
We are a high-end residential HVAC contractor serving Los Angeles, Santa Clarita, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Montecito, and surrounding areas. Our work includes custom installations, remodels, VRF/VRV systems, heat pumps, zoning, ductless and slim-duct systems, advanced controls, custom ductwork, ventilation, and complex installations requiring strong mechanical and problem-solving skills.
We are looking for a technician who takes pride in their work, communicates well, shows up reliably, and is committed to growing into a highly capable HVAC professional. This is a hands-on role in demanding luxury residential environments where cleanliness, professionalism, attention to detail, and quality workmanship are essential.
Responsibilities
● Install, service, troubleshoot, and maintain residential HVAC systems.
● Install split systems, heat pumps, furnaces, air handlers, condensers, ductless mini-splits, slim-duct systems, and VRF/VRV equipment.
● Install and modify duct systems including sheet metal, flex duct, exposed spiral ductwork, zoning systems, dampers, registers, and return-air systems.
● Install refrigerant piping, condensate drainage, low-voltage wiring, thermostats, zone controls, and HVAC accessories.
● Perform system start-up, evacuation, charging, airflow verification, and operational testing.
● Diagnose refrigeration, airflow, electrical, and control issues.
● Use HVAC diagnostic tools including meters, gauges, vacuum pumps, micron gauges, and temperature instruments.
● Read and interpret mechanical plans, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and installation specifications.
● Work with zoning systems, smart thermostats, communicating controls, and building integration systems.
● Assist with kitchen and bathroom ventilation, dryer venting, ERV/HRV systems, inline exhaust fans, and specialty ventilation.
● Maintain clean, organized work areas, especially in finished luxury homes.
● Communicate professionally with homeowners, contractors, superintendents, designers, and other trades.
● Document work performed, system conditions, repairs, and recommendations.
● Follow all safety procedures, including refrigerant handling, electrical safety, and jobsite safety standards.
Experience & Qualifications
We are open to a range of experience levels. HVAC experience is preferred, but mechanical aptitude, work ethic, and willingness to learn are highly valued.
Ideal candidates will have:
● Residential HVAC installation and/or service experience.
● Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
● Understanding of refrigeration, airflow, electrical systems, and system operation.
● Experience with refrigerant piping, brazing, evacuation, and charging.
● Ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits with a multimeter.
● Knowledge of ductwork, airflow, static pressure, and zoning systems.
● Experience with heat pumps, mini-splits, VRF/VRV, or advanced controls (strong plus).
● Ability to read wiring diagrams, mechanical plans, and equipment manuals.
● Familiarity with major HVAC brands (e.g., Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Samsung, LG, Bosch, York, Honeywell) is helpful.
● EPA Section 608 certification preferred.
● Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
● Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, and power tools.
● Comfort working in attics, crawlspaces, rooftops, and similar environments.
What We Are Looking For
We are especially interested in individuals who:
● Are committed to improving as technicians, not just collecting a paycheck.
● Can apply learned knowledge to new problems.
● Are dependable, punctual, and ready to work.
● Take pride in craftsmanship and finished appearance.
● Are respectful in high-end residential environments.
● Can work independently and as part of a small team.
● Ask thoughtful questions and seek to understand how systems work.
● Take responsibility as their skills develop.
Our company works on unique, technically challenging projects that provide exposure to advanced systems and installations rarely found in typical HVAC work.
For the right person, there is strong opportunity to grow into a lead technician, project foreman, or senior service role.
If you are mechanically sharp, professional, and serious about building your HVAC career, we would like to hear from you.
