Wolfe & Kron Books is on the hunt for Booksellers!
Are you book obsessed?
Are you a cross genre reader?
Are you an enthusiastic recommender of books with professional flair?
You may be just the bookslinger we're looking for!
If you haven't visited us before, Wolfe & Kron Books is a Queer Speculative Fiction bookstore in Uptown Asbury Park, right next to the iconic Georgie's bar.
From our start as a tiny "hidden" used bookstore inside a flea market, we've grown to serve Collective, Used + New Titles in store and next will be launching our online shippable site. Plus, we've been hosting Author Signings, Themed Bookish Parties & Markets, and are next adding Book Clubs, Craft Workshops, and possibly Bookish Retreats.
Nothing major. No big deal.
Obviously, accomplishing these goals will take more hours or work than one human can provide. So, ta da! We're hiring.
While this position is starting as Part-time, the number of hours available are limited only by our budget. This isn't intended as a Summer Job, and we're ready to pay for your classes at Professional Booksellers School to make sure you've got the skills and knowledge to make this a Full-time career position.
Here's what you can expect working at The Wolfe & The Kron:
You'll be responsible for opening the store, which includes getting the computer up and running, and making sure the shelves outside all look appealing. You have the option to arrive up to 30min before the store opens to the public, allowing time to check what's on the Daily Log agenda of tasks to be done, and to get through some shelving of those books recently added to inventory. Since we never know what's coming in, fitting books onto the available shelf space can be
...challenging. So, you get to be creative.
Once the store is open you'll have customers coming in, some to pick up books they've requested, others to drop off books they're hoping to sell for Cash or Store Credit, and others just to browse or get a recommendation. It will be up to you to make their experience an enjoyable one, and also to ensure that everyone feels safe, seen, and welcome inside the store.
You will be responsible for price-checking inventory when Collectible Books are being sold, and to keep track of each individual sale, as well as confirming or updating the
Customer's Information in our database. We accept both cash and credit [or apple pay etc], so you must be comfortable handling money.
Between all this, you'll also be expected to be posting on Social Media. We'll provide examples and brand guidelines, and your posts can be hopping on a trend, or an ongoing series you've created, short and sweet, sassy, pithy, or sweeping storytelling. One way or another you'll be responsible for creating a post at least twice a week during your shift.
You'll also be responsible for checking for emails, answering the phone, and keeping up with any messages on our various messaging. This may also include emailing, calling, and/or texting customers when a book they've requested has come in.
Throughout the day you'll be updating a Daily Log, and at the end of the day, you'll write up a quick summary, and any
"to-do's" you didn't get to. Before closing down the store, you'll need to straighten things up, and then check in with a quick text or a call.
Still sound like fun? Double check below to be sure you can tick all the basic boxes, and then give us a holler. We're excited to meet you!
