Medical Assistant / Patient Care Coordinator
Location: Des Plaines, IL (Primary Location)Additional Coverage: Schaumburg, IL (as needed)
Schedule: Rotating shifts between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM
Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time
Compensation: $19.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and compassionate Medical Assistant / Patient Care Coordinator to join our growing team. In this role, you will support both the clinical and administrative functions of our medical practice to ensure efficient operations and exceptional patient care.
The ideal candidate is reliable, professional, and comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment while assisting providers and supporting patients throughout their healthcare journey.
Please note: This position is primarily based in Des Plaines, IL. Occasional travel to our Schaumburg location may be required based on operational needs.
ResponsibilitiesPatient Coordination & Administrative Duties
- Greet and check in patients while ensuring demographic and insurance information is accurate and up to date
- Schedule appointments and procedures
- Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries in a professional and timely manner
- Verify insurance coverage and assist with required documentation
- Maintain patient records within the electronic medical record (EMR) system while ensuring confidentiality
- Assist with medical billing and coding tasks as needed
- Coordinate referrals to specialists and follow up on referral documentation
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and staff to maintain efficient patient flow
Clinical Duties
- Room patients and prepare them for provider visits
- Obtain and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, height, weight, and measurements
- Record patient histories and chief complaints
- Prepare examination rooms and maintain clinical supplies
- Assist providers during examinations and procedures
- Educate patients regarding procedures, testing, medications, and follow-up care
- Ensure infection control and safety protocols are consistently followed
Experience & QualificationsPreferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with medical terminology and clinical procedures
- Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Proficiency with office software, including Google Drive
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Required Qualifications
- Medical Assistant certification or equivalent clinical experience
- Experience obtaining and documenting vital signs
