The City of Brownsville is experiencing a period of growth and development fueled by large-scale investments such as the Brownsville–South Padre Island Airport Terminal, Space City initiatives, the Port of Brownsville, Downtown Revitalization, and community enhancements.
The Administrative Assistant I is a dynamic, detail-oriented position that provides essential clerical support to department or division staff. This role supports the City of Brownsville’s mission by delivering excellent service through efficient administrative operations, teamwork, integrity, and effective communication. The position follows established procedures while exercising some autonomy in determining the most effective approach to completing assigned tasks.

KEY FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Answers and redirects incoming phone calls
- Creates, revises, and edits correspondence and documents including memos, letters, invoices, and reports
- Performs data entry functions
- Order supplies and maintain departmental inventory
- Receives and redistributes incoming mail
- Issues permits and licenses
- Responds to customer inquiries and service requests
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & JOB SPECIFICATIONS: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires High School Diploma or GED, some College preferred
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Bilingual (Spanish)
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
- Requires minimum three months of work-related experience.
- Proficient in Windows, Word, Power Point and Excel.
PHYSICAL DEMMANDS:
- Ability to exert up to 35–50 pounds of force occasionally to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
- Requires sedentary work involving routine keyboard operations, with occasional walking or standing
Pay: $13.50 per hour
