We're hiring enthusiastic Part-Time Chess Instructors (Independent Contractors) to teach fun, engaging chess programs primarily after school and occasional weekends. Full paid training and ready-to-use curriculum provided — get trained and ready to teach by May 1!
No prior formal coaching experience or certification required — just a love for chess and working with kids. This flexible role is perfect for strong chess players, teachers, college students, or anyone who enjoys mentoring youth in a positive, strategic environment.Key Responsibilities
- Deliver our proven, age-appropriate lessons to groups of beginners through advanced players (small class sizes)
- Create a fun, supportive, and inclusive atmosphere that builds confidence and love for chess
- Teach core rules, tactics, strategies, and sportsmanship using our structured curriculum (training included)
- Manage group dynamics and keep students engaged and focused
- Track progress, give positive feedback, and communicate updates to parents
- Help run in-class games, puzzles, and friendly mini-tournaments
Requirements
- Solid understanding of chess rules and basic-to-intermediate strategies (USCF rating helpful but not required)
- Experience working with or teaching children (classroom, tutoring, coaching, camps, etc.) — even informal counts!
- Reliable transportation to travel within the Greater Denver metro area (mileage reimbursement for some sites)
- Passion for chess, kids, and making learning exciting
- Available for after-school hours (typically 3–6 pm weekdays) and occasional weekend events
