POSITION SUMMARY: The Milling Machine Operator is responsible for operating a diesel-powered, track-driven milling machine to remove existing asphalt surfaces in preparation for resurfacing or repair. This role requires precise control of milling depth, speed, and material discharge, along with coordination of on-site logistics to ensure efficient and safe operation.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Operate the milling machine using levers, pedals, and controls to manage direction, speed, and positioning.

Determine the appropriate milling rate based on depth of cut, aggregate type, and bond strength.

Adjust machine controls to manage cutting depth and positioning of the discharge chute.

Direct dump truck drivers regarding alignment, speed, and material capacity during milling operations.

Perform pre-operation equipment checks, including fluid levels (oil, coolant, etc.), and inspect machinery for wear or damage.

Assist with additional labor or operator tasks as needed to support crew operations and job completion, under the direction of the Foreman.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in paving and operating heavy equipment.

Solid knowledge of asphalt installation methods, tools, and materials.
Excellent hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and manual dexterity.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.
Required to stand, walk, bend, climb, and stretch for extended periods during the shift.
Must be able to sit for 6–8 hours per day in intervals of 2–3 hours.
Manual dexterity to handle tools and safely operate equipment is essential.
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory; sunscreen, long sleeves, and proper headgear are recommended.
Visual and hearing acuity must be sufficient to safely operate equipment in active work zones.
Compliance with the company’s drug and alcohol testing policies is required.
Ability to test and inspect equipment or processes to ensure proper quality and performance.
Proficient in selecting and using the appropriate tools and equipment for the job.
Skilled in monitoring machine indicators, gauges, and dials for safe and effective operation.
Strong equipment control and coordination skills.
Active listening and communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions and collaborate with team members.
Capable of performing routine maintenance and identifying when service or repairs are required.
