Job Summary
Nutter Pipelayers are a vital team member for the preparation and laying of pipe for wet utilities including storm, sanitary, and waterlines. Pipelayers ensure trenches are excavated to grade, shored, and prepared for pipe and utility structure installation. Grading trench foundations, aligning pipe positions and checking pipe slopes and invert elevations are all tasks that pipelayer or crew may regularly complete to make sure site plan requirements are met. The Pipelayer works on a crew comprised of Pipe Foreman, Top Hand, Excavator Operator, and Backfill Operator who all strive to ensure Pipes are installed safely, on budget and does not require re-work.
Responsibilities
· Works as part of Pipe crew team (Pipe Foreman, Top Hand, Excavator Operator, Backfill Operator) to install Water, Sanitary, and Storm pipe systems and all structures related to them.
· Maintains a thorough knowledge of pipe installation equipment including GPS, equipment, lasers, transits, grade rods, and line levels.
· Reviews construction plans and pipe staking with crew Forman and Superintendent to identify materials needed, as well as any conflicts with existing utility lines.
· Uses tools such as shovels, lasers and levels to help guide and Excavator operator, to correctly dig out trenches and lay pipe to exact grade per construction plan.
· Ensure subsoil and pipe bedding has been compacted properly to prevent pipe sagging or bellies.
· Measure, cut and prepare pipe ends and fitting assemblies. Ensure all joints and fitting are inspected, cleaned, aligned and installed to manufacturers specifications.
· Promote a safe work environment, and adhere to company’s safety policies
· Assist with general labor tasks as requested.
Requirements:
· This job is considered Safety Sensitive and must pass a pre-employment drug screen
· 1+ years of previous pipe-laying experience, preferred.
· Proven ability to read plans, calculate grades and set up pipe lasers, preferred
· Have or able to obtain, confined space training, rigging and signaling certificates.
· Ability to quickly install standard manholes and catch basins
· General knowledge and understanding of different shoring types, joints, fittings and structures.
· Must have reliable transportation.
· Must be able to lift 50–100 pounds.
