Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting operations of our growing construction company. This position is responsible for managing the accounting team, overseeing month-end close, preparing financial statements, and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of all accounting processes. The Controller will oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, pay applications, cash management, and accounting systems while supporting continuous process improvement across the organization. They will report to our VP of Finance.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Manage the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and account analysis.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
- Analyze financial results and investigate variances and discrepancies.
Construction Accounting
- Help assist with project accounting, job costing, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
- Manage owner billings, pay applications, retainage tracking, and lien waivers.
Team Leadership & Operations
- Establish priorities, monitor workloads, and ensure deadlines are met utilizing the finance calendar.
- Develop and maintain effective accounting procedures and internal controls.
Payroll, Cash Flow & Systems
- Oversee payroll processing and related compliance requirements.
- Monitor cash activity, collections, and vendor payments to support healthy cash flow.
- Improve accounting workflows and ensure efficient integration between accounting, payroll, and project management systems.
- Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
Compliance & Audit
- Support annual audits, tax filings, bonding requests, and monthly filings for sales tax.
- Maintain accurate documentation and strong internal controls.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 10+ years of accounting experience with construction industry experience required.
- Prior supervisory or management experience 3+ years.
- Strong knowledge of month-end close, financial statement preparation, job costing, payroll, and construction billing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
