We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Fiber Jetting Operator to join our underground fiber optic construction team. The ideal candidate will lead fiber jetting operations for the installation of fiber optic cable through underground conduit systems while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.As the Lead Fiber Jetting Operator, you will oversee a small field crew, coordinate daily job site activities, operate and maintain fiber jetting equipment, and work closely with project managers, fiber splicers, and customers to ensure successful project completion. This position requires strong leadership, technical knowledge, and a commitment to safety.Responsibilities
- Lead daily fiber jetting operations for underground fiber optic construction projects.
- Operate fiber jetting equipment to install fiber optic cable through existing conduit systems.
- Inspect conduit systems before installation to verify they are suitable for jetting operations.
- Perform conduit proofing, swabbing, mandreling, and lubrication as needed.
- Operate air compressors, cable blowing machines, and related equipment.
- Monitor cable tension, air pressure, and installation performance to prevent cable damage.
- Troubleshoot conduit obstructions and installation issues in the field.
- Coordinate with Fiber Splicers and Construction Supervisors to ensure efficient project workflow.
- Supervise and mentor Ground Hands and Apprentice Fiber Jet Operators.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure OSHA and company safety standards are followed.
- Maintain accurate production reports, installation documentation, and equipment inspection logs.
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on jetting equipment and tools.
- Ensure company vehicles, trailers, and equipment are clean, organized, and properly maintained.
- Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, inspectors, and utility representatives.
- Travel to project locations as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of underground fiber optic construction experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of fiber jetting (cable blowing) experience preferred.
- Previous crew leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of underground conduit systems and fiber optic cable installation practices.
- Experience operating fiber jetting equipment, air compressors, cable reels, and support equipment.
- Ability to read construction prints, utility maps, and project specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work outdoors.
- Comfortable working in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- CDL is preferred but not required.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Experience with directional boring support operations.
- Knowledge of utility locating practices and damage prevention.
- Experience working on FTTH, long-haul, middle-mile, or municipal fiber projects.
