Job responsibilities include
· Generate Heat & Material Balances for process either by hand or using simulation software
· Assist in the development of piping and instrumentation drawings (P&ID’s) for the process including line sizing and developing control schemes
· Determine the process data needed for the sizing of instruments to be used in the process
· Determine the process data needed for the sizing of pumps to be used in the process
· Generate equipment specifications for vessels, heat exchanges, pumps, distillation
columns, etc., and work with equipment vendors to obtain the required equipment needed for a project
· Assist with the development of equipment layout drawings
· Generate bid tabulation of equipment from vendor quotations
· Conduct safety studies for a process for the sizing of relief device
· Provide input as needed to other disciplines during project execution
· Develop standard operating procedures (SOP’s) for processes.
· Develop scopes of work
· Ability to analyze and troubleshoot unique situations and develop appropriate responses
- Review inquiries and specifications to determine requirements
- Prepare conceptual designs and perform pump and heat exchanger calculations for estimating purposes
- Perform calculations for line sizes and review/create process flow diagrams (PFD’s)
- Investigate availability, pricing, and characteristics of products and equipment to be used in a given application
- Evaluate products and designs for best overall value or cost saving alternates and efficiency
- Interface with engineers and drafting team to prepare designs, drawings, and specifications for proposals
- Interact with clients to identify scope of supply, equipment design, and lead times
Assist and field questions during the construction phase.
Evaluating processes and equipment to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Accountabilities
A process professional engineer is accountable to perform calculations and develop designs on time, mentor team members to become professional engineers, present design to the customer and defend design decisions, review vendor and OEM documentation.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Engineering
M.S in Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Engineering, preferred
7 years working in a steel mill or other heavy industry facility
5 years in consulting engineering, preferred
Industry contacts in process engineering is required
Must be P.E. licensed in the state of Alabama
Preferred Skills
Ability to work in AutoCAD, Revit, MathCAD is a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Developing project budgets
Ability to mentor young engineers, with success
Willingness and ability to train others
Construction support experience
