Automotive Service Manager
An established and well-capitalized automotive retailer is seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead a high-performing domestic automotive service operation in Central Massachusetts.
We are not looking for someone who simply keeps a service department running.
We are looking for a leader who develops people, improves processes, embraces accountability, and creates an environment where employees enjoy coming to work and customers choose to return.
If your first instinct when something goes wrong is to coach, measure, improve, and lead rather than assign blame, we'd like to meet you.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading, coaching, and developing service advisors, technicians, dispatch, and support staff.
- Driving technician productivity, efficiency, and overall shop performance.
- Monitoring key performance indicators including gross profit, effective labor rate, technician proficiency, customer satisfaction, warranty performance, and repair order quality.
- Creating a culture built on accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Working closely with Parts, Sales, and Executive Leadership to improve the overall customer experience.
- Recruiting, mentoring, and retaining top automotive talent.
- Identifying operational opportunities and implementing sustainable process improvements.
- Ensuring compliance with manufacturer policies, warranty requirements, and dealership operating standards.
Who Thrives in This Role
The ideal candidate is someone who naturally enjoys building people as much as building a profitable operation.
You're someone who:
- Leads by example.
- Coaches the service process and can execute the responsibilities of others in the service department.
- Uses data to identity emerging issues and make decisions.
- Holds yourself accountable before holding others accountable.
- Is comfortable making difficult decisions when necessary.
- Believes that strong processes create consistent results.
- Enjoys solving operational challenges.
- Takes pride in developing future leaders.
- Understands that culture directly impacts profitability.
This Role May Not Be The Right Fit If...
- You prefer managing from behind a desk rather than leading from the service drive and shop floor.
- You resist change or continuous improvement.
- You spend more time explaining problems than solving them.
- You believe people either "have it" or they don't, rather than investing in coaching and development.
Qualifications
Required:
- Automotive Service Management experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience within a dealership service department.
- Strong understanding of dealership financial performance and operational metrics.
- Proven ability to coach and develop employees.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred:
- Experience managing domestic automotive brands.
- Strong understanding of warranty administration and manufacturer compliance.
- Experience improving technician productivity and advisor performance.
- Multi-rooftop or high-volume dealership experience.
What We Offer
We believe exceptional leaders deserve exceptional support.
Qualified candidates can expect:
- Competitive compensation with performance incentives.
- Comprehensive health and retirement benefits.
- Paid vacation and holidays.
- Ongoing professional development and leadership opportunities.
- The opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a growing automotive organization.
- Executive leadership committed to investing in people, processes, and long-term success.
Application Instructions
In addition to your résumé, please include a brief response (250 words or fewer) describing the most impactful operational improvement you've personally implemented within a service department.
Please include:
- The challenge you faced.
- The action you took.
- The measurable results that followed.
We're interested in how you think, how you lead, and how you create lasting improvements.
If you're looking for an opportunity where your leadership can genuinely influence the future of a service department, we encourage you to apply.
