The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of material flow within the facility, including inbound receiving, inventory control, associated material handling, production scheduling, and outbound load planning and shipping. This role ensures the right materials are available at the right time to meet production and customer delivery requirements while optimizing cost and efficiency.
Supervision to: Production Scheduler, Cycle Counter, Shipping, Receiving, Packaging and Material handling Staff
Works closely with: Production Manager, Buyers, Project Managers, 3PL partners
- Production Planning & Scheduling
- Assures the development and maintenance of the master production schedule to meet customer demand and plant capacity.
- Coordinate with production and procurement to align schedules with material availability and labor capacity.
- Monitor schedule attainment and adjust plans to minimize downtime, shortages, and excess inventory.
- Manage MRP/ERP system inputs and outputs related to demand and supply planning.
- Oversee inventory accuracy, control, and optimization across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
- Lead and monitor cycle counting programs to ensure high inventory accuracy.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- Manage all receiving operations, including executing inbound deliveries and dock activity.
- Ensure timely and accurate receipt of materials into inventory systems.
- Collaborate with procurement for scheduling and issue resolution.
- Oversee outbound shipping operations, ensuring on-time delivery to customers.
- Develop and manage load planning strategies to optimize freight costs and truck utilization.
- Coordinate with carriers, third-party logistics providers, and project managers.
- Ensure proper packaging, labeling, and documentation for shipments.
- Direct warehouse operations including storage, picking, staging, packaging and material flow to production lines.
- Ensure proper use of equipment and adherence to safety standards.
- Implement lean practices such as 5S and FIFO.
- Lead, develop, and coach cross-functional teams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, efficiency, and service level.
- Establish KPIs and track performance metrics.
- Partner with production, quality, engineering, and procurement teams.
- Maintain compliance with quality, safety, and documentation requirements.
- Schedule execution, inventory accuracy, on time shipments, freight cost efficiency, receiving and shipping accuracy, and cycle count compliance.
