Commercial Construction Superintendent
The Commercial Construction Superintendent will provide full-time, on-site coordination and management for the ground-up construction or major renovation of quick-lube facilities and automotive service centers. This position requires a strong background in supervising deep foundation/pit excavations and complex MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) routing. The Superintendent ensures projects are built safely, on schedule, and in strict compliance with environmental and building codes.
Core Responsibilities
- Site Management & Schedule Control: Oversee all on-site activities from pre-construction through to the final punch list and client handover.
Manage daily on-site construction operations. Maintain the project schedule using a "3-week look-ahead" plan to coordinate material deliveries, grading, and trades.
- Subcontractor Coordination: Manage specialized trade contractors and material deliveries to ensure materials and labor are coordinated for optimal productivity.
- Civil & Safety Compliance: Enforce local building codes and guidelines. Maintain a zero-injury job site by enforcing OSHA safety regulations and company safety protocols, conducting routine site inspections and safety meetings.
- Quality Assurance (QA/QC): Conduct regular inspections to ensure all structural, mechanical, and architectural work conforms to design drawings, building codes, and engineering specifications.
- Documentation & RFIs: Manage project logs, look-ahead, inspection records, and progress photos via construction management software.
- Construction Skills: Knowledge and ability to perform tasks such as: Installation of ADA hardware in bathrooms, Hang doors and install hardware.
Key Qualifications
- Experience: Typically, 5+ years of on-site supervisory experience in commercial construction and tenant improvements. Track record of leading at least a few ground-up automotive facilities (e.g., quick-lube shops, dealerships, or tire centers) is a plus.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of commercial building codes, blueprint reading, and building material properties. Possess understanding of commercial concrete forms, sub-grade pit construction, and utility tie-ins.
- Leadership: Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills to manage diverse, on-site labor crews
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in outdoor field environments, navigate uneven terrain, climb ladders, and lift 50 lbs.
