Summary:
The Behavior Teacher for the Elma School District will be responsible for designing and delivering instruction to students with high needs autism and behavior. This is a full-time position that requires strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Required Qualifications:
-
A valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with Special Education Endorsement
-
WSP/FBI fingerprint background clearance (fee paid by the employee)
-
Experience in teaching special education in self-contained settings
-
Experience in working with students identified for special education needs services in social adaptive skills and positive behavior management
-
Ability to plan instructional programs to meet the needs of students with a range of disabilities including sensory impairments, speech and language difficulties, learning difficulties, conditions such as autism, social-emotional and mental health needs, or a combination of these difficulties

Knowledge and/or experience in grade levels assigned and common core standards
-
Knowledge of current trends in curriculum, instruction, and technology

Knowledge and/or experience with new state assessment requirements
-
Ability to plan instructional programs to meet the needs of diverse learners
-
Regular attendance is an essential function of this position

Examples of Duties:
This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary and without notice. Depending upon individual assignments, the teacher performs all or a combination of several of the following duties:

Design and deliver instruction for students qualifying for the behavior program and class
-
Case manage Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students
-
Work with grade level teams to align instructional design and delivery
-
Design instruction for students in the behavior program to meet their academic, social emotional, and behavior needs
-
Work with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement behavior plans for students with challenging behaviors
-
Provide individual and small group support to students who are struggling with emotional and behavioral issues
-
Collaborate with the Special Education team to support the development and growth of the behavior program
-
Up to date on certification for any physical intervention required to ensure student and staff safety
-
Provide crisis intervention and support to students who are experiencing emotional or behavioral crises
-
Maintain accurate records of student academic and behavioral progress, in addition to behavior interventions implemented
-
Provide training and support to teachers and staff on behavior management strategies
-
Ability to direct and support any paraprofessional staff assigned to support students in the behavioral classroom
-
Consistently develop strong relationships with students’ families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns about their children.

Provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their children’s learning
-
Efficiently handling and overseeing tasks to ensure that each task is organized, prioritized and effectively managed
-
Experience designing and delivering math intervention and support
-
Skilled in data review and analysis for tracking student growth

Experienced in Co-Teaching Lessons
-
Strong pedagogical knowledge in content area
-
Able to design and run small group interventions
