PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Salary to be commensurate with experience
The hiring range for this position is $19.20 - $24.00 per hour

Overview of Department / Position
Aurora Water is responsible for enhancing and protecting the quality of life for Aurora citizens by providing quality water, sewer, and stormwater services in a manner that balances social, environmental, and economic needs.
Help us deliver exceptional service from the moment someone walks through our doors. Based at the Wemlinger Water Purification Facility, the Administrative Assistant serves at the front desk as a primary point of contact for customers, visitors, and employees, providing friendly and knowledgeable assistance while helping keep daily operations running smoothly. The ideal candidate brings a customer-first mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to balance front-desk responsibilities with a variety of administrative support.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Reception, mail handling, filing, and records maintenance
-
Provides a layer of security by screening gate and building entrance
-
Scheduling of facilities and events
-
Composing correspondence, answering and referring phone calls and emails
-
Processing documents, logging payments; ordering office supplies, documenting work orders and invoices

Performing data entry, and providing basic/initial customer service activities
-
Additional responsibilities may include performing office functions such as distributing and copying documents, moving and storing items, composing forms, and standard documents and serving walk-in customers

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:

High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
-
One (1) year of office or customer service experience
Knowledge:
-
Knowledge of business English, spelling, and math

General office equipment, including personal computers with related software applications

MS Office Suite
-
Preferred knowledge of Access Control or similar security system
Abilities:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens.

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines with little supervision

Valid Colorado driver's license with a good driving record
WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:
-
When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:

Light physical work lifting at least 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds with or without assistance.

Frequent hand/eye coordination for operation of office equipment

Vision for reading and interpreting reports and data analysis and preparation

Frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communication with employees and citizens
Equipment Used:

Frequently uses standard office equipment including computer, calculator, multi-line telephones, and copy/fax machines.

This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
