Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Property & Casualty Underwriting Director to lead our underwriting operations within the property and casualty insurance sector. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the underwriting department by identifying and addressing performance indicators, actively engaging in problem-solving. You will provide recommendations to executive management for enhancing underwriting performance and streamlining operations as well as collaborating with the team to consistently enhance underwriting results and streamline operational processes. In this position you will foster the professional growth of staff through coaching, mentoring, and training initiatives and serve as a valuable resource to agents, directing communications regarding alterations to coverage and pricing. Additionally you will conducts research and propose advancements to proprietary products that align with evolving market trends
Responsibilities
- Manages the staff and activities involved in the evaluation and processing of personal lines applications to ensure accuracy, integrity, and customer satisfaction.
- Helps to set objectives for underwriting staff and regularly deliver formal feedback on these objectives
- Serves as the key expert and point of contact for nonstandard risks
- Maintains an understanding of all WMI products, services and solutions and initiate discussions with other departments to ensure consistencies in the lifecycle of the policy
- Gathers and disperses legal notification of policy changes for both company-instigated and legislatively-instigated changes to all affected clients
- Meets with marketing to cultivate new leads for personal lines and discuss market changes.
- Assists with filings, manual and form updates.
- Monitors the execution of company and agency underwriting and procedures guidelines to ensure adherence to department standards.
Qualifications
- A Minimum of five years personal or multiline underwriting experience
- Ability to mentor and train others while demonstrating competencies in team-building, leadership, and problem-solving.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Exceptional negotiation skills and the capability to interpret financial statements, credit reports, and related documents are essential.
- Demonstrates understanding of fundamental concepts related to product rate analysis, the financial performance of a book of business, and the financial performance of agency partners
- Competency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, imaging programs, and other technology platforms is required.
- Exhibits the ability to prioritize and organize tasks effectively.
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field
- CPCU, CIC, ARM or similar designation(s)
- Previous underwriting management experience
Pay: $100,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
