**This position will be located at the Valley Transfer Station**
Positions allocated to this classification perform Roll-Off Truck and container transport services while performing a variety of job duties. Employees in this classification will transport and haul various materials under the direction of the Transfer Station Site Supervisor.
Job Description:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Drives a drop box truck to efficiently and safely transport solid waste or recyclables.
- Ensures positive engagement between the truck and container; inspects rig before driving to ensure all equipment and accessories, including drop boxes, are in good working condition and can be driven safely on roadway without endangering self or others.
- Hydraulically/mechanically picks up and drops off drop boxes as assigned.
- Safely and efficiently maneuvers truck and set down drop boxes in tight quarters around customers, other equipment, along retaining walls, and other areas.
- Performs routine maintenance on assigned vehicle by checking fluid levels and lubricating equipment as necessary; maintains vehicle mileage, daily inspection reports, service records, and other paperwork, as required.
- Coordinates with Transfer Station Site Supervisors, other Drop Box Drivers, site staff, and recycling vendors to efficiently and effectively schedule service where and when needed, including but not limited to ensuring an adequate number of empty drop boxes are delivered and available at each site as needed.
- Performs all manual labor tasks necessary to support all solid waste and recycling drop box operations.
- Provide assistance to Site Attendants and other co-workers as needed.
- Communicates with supervisors and other Division staff and is pro-active to identify and resolve operational related problems.
- Performs related duties to optimize recycling and support Solid Waste operations as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Respond to after-hours emergency calls as appropriate.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years’ experience operating a tractor‑trailer or truck‑trailer combination (drop box truck).
- OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must possess a CDL B and be able to pass job related certifications/training.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
- Possession of a valid driver's license at time of employment and for the duration of employment.
- OSHA HazMat Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire date.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the practices and required equipment of the trade.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing the safe operation of a truck trailer or tractor trailer combination.
- Knowledge of routine maintenance and troubleshooting procedures relevant to trucks; Knowledge of safety rules and regulations, and potential hazards associated with the work.
- Ability to operate assigned vehicle safely, courteously, and efficiently in all types of traffic and weather conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to thoroughly inspect assigned vehicles, trailer, and containers prior to operation to ensure all equipment and accessories are in proper operating condition.
- Ability to maintain driving record within County standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed in both an office environment and on-site at the Transfer Station. Work requires driving, standing, walking, crawling, climbing, using equipment and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Work is also performed outdoors; and requires truck travel within the County, exposing the associate to weather extremes, various forms of precipitation and the hazards associated with travel on public roads.
- Hazards: Exposure to municipal and hazardous solid wastes, adverse weather conditions, traffic, dust, dirt, and odiferous conditions required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Total Compensation:
$69,622 - $96,965 Annually
Total compensation is an estimate based upon base compensation, median retirement fund contributions, and current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates (including medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability, and leave). The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.
