American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Operating Room position at a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated hospital requiring a minimum of 2.5 years of OR experience and an active IL RN license.

Work in the Operating Room department of an acute care hospital with 23 rooms
-
Facility supports all surgical service lines except cardiovascular (CV)
-
Day shift schedule (4x10 hours), alternating 10:45am-9:15pm and 12:45pm-11:15pm
-
Weekend requirement of 1 shift per month
-
On-call requirement of approximately 1 shift per week
-
Floating required within skill set, though it rarely occurs
-
Not open to block scheduling

Uses Cerner charting system
-
Active IL RN license required in hand or in-process at time of application

Minimum 2.5 years of Operating Room nursing experience required

BLS certification required; CNOR and CST certifications preferred
-
General OR and Trauma experience required
-
Level I trauma experience required
-
Cerner charting experience preferred
-
AHA and Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI cards not accepted

Experience required in general surgery cases including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, laparoscopic procedures, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, and Whipple procedures
-
Experience required in neurology cases including cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, and lumbar fusion
-
Experience required in orthopedic cases including arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, and open/closed fracture reductions
-
Experience required in urology cases including cystoscopy, nephrectomy, and prostatectomy
-
Experience required in trauma cases including amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, and multiple-injury MVAs
-
Experience required with free flap microvascular plastic surgery procedures
-
Experience required with organ donation/transplant procedures
-
Experience required with laparoscopic assisted bariatric cases
-
Proficiency required in emergency management protocols including code response, fire safety, latex allergy protocols, and malignant hyperthermia response
-
Proficiency required with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables
-
Knowledge required in blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol time-out procedures, and urinary bladder catheterization

First-time travelers are not accepted for this position

Prior travel experience required

Facility is a Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated hospital with 562 staffed beds

Scrubs are provided for this role

Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
-
Floating is required for all travelers, which may include floating within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
-
Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this role
-
All requested time off must be reviewed and approved by the facility manager
-
Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
-
Previous permanent or PRN employees of the health system must be separated from the facility for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
