About Us
Tri State Gate is a custom gate, fence, and automation company serving the tri-state area. We're a family-run business with a small, tight-knit office team, the kind of place where you'll know everyone by name in your first week. We're growing, and growing means hiring: office staff, customer service, skilled trades, and field technicians. This is a new position at the center of that growth.
The Role
You'll be our first in-house recruiter, and you'll own hiring from posting to start date. You'll write and manage our job postings, screen applicants, run phone interviews, coordinate interviews with our managers, check references, and keep strong candidates warm so that when we need someone, we already know who to call. Between active searches, you'll build the machine: an employee referral program, relationships with trade schools, and content that shows people what it's like to work here. If you're a recruiter who loves the hunt but wants off the agency commission treadmill, this seat was designed for you.
What You'll Do
- Own our job postings end to end: write them, post them, manage the ad budgets, keep them fresh
- Review applicants daily and phone-screen the promising ones (you'll talk to a lot of people, and you'll be good at spotting the real ones)
- Coordinate interviews with our managers and keep every candidate moving, so nobody ever wonders where they stand
- Check references, help prepare offers, and stay in touch with new hires through their start date
- Source passive candidates for skilled trades roles through resume databases, outreach, and social channels
- Build and maintain a bench of qualified candidates for our key roles, checking in so they're warm when we need them
- Run our employee referral program and build relationships with trade schools and local training programs
- Create hiring content: job-site photos and video, employee spotlights, posts that make people want to work here
- Help with marketing, social media, and office projects as time allows; we're a small company and everyone pitches in
This describes the general nature of the role and is not an exhaustive list of duties. As a small team, responsibilities shift with the needs of the business, and we'll count on you to jump in where it helps.
What Success Looks Like
- In your first 90 days: our open roles have healthy candidate pipelines, screening and scheduling run like clockwork, and you've landed your first hires.
- By 6 to 12 months: every key role has a warm bench behind it, the referral program is producing, time-to-fill keeps dropping, and we haven't paid an outside recruiting fee since you started.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of recruiting experience, agency or in-house (agency recruiters looking to move in-house: we get it, and we'd love to talk)
- Experience recruiting for skilled trades, construction, industrial, or hourly roles is a big plus
- Excellent phone presence; you'll spend much of your day talking with candidates, and they should hang up wanting the job
- Organized and self-managing; you'll juggle several open roles and dozens of candidates without dropping any
- Comfortable with software: job boards, spreadsheets, CRM and applicant-tracking tools (we'll get you up to speed on ours)
- Social media and content skills are a real plus (photos, short video, posts)
- A straight shooter who reads people well and tells us what you really think
