DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will focus on maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles and equipment used throughout the agency. The work you will do supports safe and reliable transportation operations across the region. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Repair: Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, and other major components on vehicles and machinery
- Preventative Maintenance: Complete inspections and service routines to keep equipment in proper working order
- Diagnostics Work: Use diagnostic tools and procedures to identify mechanical and electrical problems
- Safety Compliance: Carry out official state inspections and confirm that equipment meets safety requirements
- Field Support: Make minor adjustments and repairs during field operations to ensure safe use of equipment
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities and equipment conditions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Travel, overtime and shift work will be required. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- You must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License.
- You must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
- This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N).

- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
