The Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for daily operation of the Ophthalmologist’s practice assisting with surgeries and the treatment and care of ophthalmic patients.
*This clinic specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelid and eyebrow, Botox and fillers, orbit and lacrimal surgery, thyroid eye disease.
Obtains accurate medical and family histories, current medications, allergies and consultation information for the physician.
Assists the ophthalmologist with surgeries and postoperative care of patients, removing sutures and performing other surgical duties as directed by the physician.
Cleans and sterilizes instruments. Cleans and stocks all treatment rooms.
Assists the physician in examination rooms and transcribes for the physician. Knows and stays current on procedures and diagnostic codes.
Is knowledgeable of the applicable pharmacology used by the physician. Is able to write and convey prescriptions accurately to pharmacies and appropriately documents transactions.
Monitors and evaluates the doctors schedule arranging and adjusting surgery patient appointments and other medical procedures as needed
Is knowledgeable of and efficiently operates the Company’s electronic medical records system without error.
Is responsible for correspondence, patient charts, medical forms, supplies and inventory.
Employs professional telephone triage following established protocols.
Ensures departmental equipment is clean and examination rooms are stocked and organized.
Educates and instructs patients about treatments, medications and surgeries.
Is responsible for knowing the work schedule, observing work hours and maintaining a good attendance record. (See attached attendance and punctuality requirements.)
Attends in-service programs and maintains continuing education credits as directed or required for certification and licensure requirements.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, employees, supervisors and the public.

Pay: $14.50 - $17.00 per hour
