DEFINITION:
To provide motorcycle safety education to students through lecture, demonstration, "hands on” driving and testing.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
- Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from the Defensive Driving Coordinator.
- Exercises no supervision
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENT:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students using Motorcycle Safety Foundation curriculum and handbooks
Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to: class rosters, registration forms, pay sheets, attendance forms and grade rosters
Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area (Motorcycle Safety Foundation and NC Motorcycle Safety Education Program) and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines.
Other Important Functions:
- Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures
Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures
Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment
Ability To:
Maintain RiderCoach certification in accordance with MSF and NCMSEP by teaching a minimum of three classes per year, attending annual training, and submitting a driving record every two years.
Obtain CPR Certification prior to teaching first class.
Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:o Reading and writing
o Handling varied tasks simultaneously
o Making observations
o Communicating with others
o Operating assigned equipment-
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:
o Walking, Standing or sitting for extended periods of time
o Bending and stooping
o Operating assigned equipment

Minimum Education/Training:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- Must be a NC approved RiderCoach and graduate of the RiderCoach Preparation Course offered through NCMSEP. An approved Rider Coach must meet the following criteria:
o Licensed, experienced motorcycle operator with a minimum of 3 years riding experience. o Driving record with more than 3 moving violations, no alcohol related traffic violations, and no driver's license suspension, revocation, or denial within the three years preceding the date of application to become a RiderCoach. Must provide copy of driving record.
