Job Description:
As a Recovery Support Specialist at Ascendant NY, your role will involve delivering personalized peer support, mentorship, and advocacy to individuals embarking on their recovery journey. You'll possess a comprehensive grasp of person-centered recovery-oriented principles and practices, encompassing trauma-informed care, medication-assisted treatment, and peer support modalities. You will help to sustain a healthy recovery community here at Ascendant NY.
Job Responsibilities:
- Learn, uphold, and model all policies and procedures about the Ascendant NY program;
- Working closely with Clinicians, overseeing the coordination of care for clients, to bridge the gap between clinical care and case management;
- Weekly email communication with referents
- Email communication with families
- Refer Outs
- Works directly with clinician and team on needs, then sources referrals from outreach/admissions (list for this TBD)
- Collaborate with the Clinician regarding critical cases and interventions
- Oversee weekly UDS processing of all Ascendant clients;
- Use lived experience and be comfortable serving as a role model of personal recovery to connect with clients and support them in their goals;
- Working with the Executive & Program Director, guide weekly outreach to educate the community on how to avoid overdose and implement prevention strategies;
- De-escalate and address any non-clinical issues that may arise in the building;
- Provide support crisis intervention and support when needed;
- Escort clients to appointments as necessary, acting as sober support for those clients in early recovery;
- Model healthy coping skills and educate clients on various pathways to recovery;
- Attend weekly group supervision and individual supervision, as necessary;
- Ability to participate in community outreach including working closely with Ascendant’s inpatient detox and rehab facility;
- Help foster a community of recovery and engagement
- Other appropriate duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements:
· High School Diploma/GED
· NYS Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA)
· Ability to motivate clients in a courteous, empathic and professional manner;
· Excellent listening and relationship-building skills to establish strong working alliances with clients and staff;
· Superior communication skills to convey information clearly, accurately, and completely;
· Ability to de-escalate and maintain professional standards when handling difficult outreach and case management challenges;
· Must have experience with integrated substance abuse assessment, treatment and motivational interviewing techniques;
· Ability to thrive in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team setting and attend supervision, seminars, and meetings as needed;

The Following are Considered a PLUS:
· Prior experience working as a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate
· Experience working with persons with co-occurring mental health issues
· Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR, i.e. InSync, Kipu, LightningStep, etc.)
· Experience in documenting Wellness/Recovery Plans
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
