This is an in-person role, based at Gathering for Women’s Day Center, in Monterey, CA. The Development Associate plays a vital role in advancing our mission through strategic fundraising initiatives, marketing, donor stewardship, and event planning. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful projects, engage with diverse stakeholders, and support the growth of our programs through financial stability. The Development Associate will utilize a broad skill set including grant proposal writing, CRM management, donor outreach, and public relations to enhance our outreach and fundraising efforts.

About Gathering for Women:
Gathering for Women: Gathering for Women is a nonprofit organization that supports women experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity by providing a safe, welcoming day center and personalized services that promote stability, dignity, and self-sufficiency. Through comprehensive case management, housing navigation, health and wellness programs, and access to essential resources such as meals, showers, clothing, and community referrals, the organization helps women address both immediate needs and long-term goals. By partnering with local service providers and offering individualized support, Gathering for Women empowers women to build healthier, more secure futures and progress on their pathway out of homelessness. On an annual basis, GFW provides nearly 25,000 meals to over 400 guests.
Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Donor Stewardship and Donor Relations
● Create touch points for the Executive Director and other development team members. Set goals for the number of touch points annually and ensure they are met.
● Assist in developing a stewardship plan of Gathering for Women’s major donor portfolio, ensuring donors experience high-quality interactions that foster long-term engagement and investment.
● Support with conveying the impact of gifts and ensure that donors are kept up to date on key developments in Gathering for Women’s campaigns and priorities.
● Assist with developing an active pipeline of major donors by working closely with the Executive Director, staff and consultants to identify prospects based on giving history.
● Strengthen strategies to identify and recruit new potential individual donors.
● Assist with writing solicitation letters, proposals, donor recognition pieces for publications, newsletters, and other materials as needed.
● Liaise with other fundraising staff, interns, and consultants.
Fundraising Operations and Events
● Support annual giving campaigns, individual donor drives, and strategic fundraising initiatives.
● Coordinate appeal letter production and mailing.
● Maintain an accurate donor database including foundations, corporations, and individual donor files (and on the server).
● Generate documents, reports, correspondence, and presentations that represent the impact of programs and services.
● Collect and analyze data in an accurate and timely manner and prepare reports monthly and as needed.
● Reconcile donations with the Finance Department monthly.
● Assist with fundraising and communications calendar to expand GFW’s reach, visibility, and appeal to donors.
● Monitor events calendar ensuring deadlines are met and assist the Executive Director in the coordination of all aspects of fundraising events.
● Oversee guest lists, invitations, programs, registration lists, budget, and decorations.
● Prospect and procure raffle or silent auction donations.
Grants and Administration
● Assist with identifying new grant opportunities and make recommendations to the Executive Director.
● Assist with the development of compelling proposals and applications, grant narratives, and grant reports for review by the Executive Director.
● Assist in ensuring all grant, loan and donor requirements are met on time and in full.
● Support the execution of the grants calendar maintaining an up-to-date roster of grants, reports, deliverables, proposals, and prospects.
● Oversee grant cycle including the grant calendar, application process, and reporting. Monitor the grants calendar ensuring deadlines are met.

Work Environment:
A typical work schedule is 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday during daytime hours, however evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required. The office environment is collaborating with volunteers, staff, and GFW guests who are primarily homeless women. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
The Development Associate may be required to drive in connection with fundraising and events. Although this is primarily a sedentary position, the Development Associate may be required to stand, walk (up and down stairs), stoop, and bend continually throughout the workday. Occasionally, the Development Associate may be called on to lift up to 25 lbs.

Reports to: Executive Director.
Education and Experience: Prior experience in fundraising, event planning, and donor data management required. Prior experience working with a non-profit and/or with vulnerable populations is strongly desired. Passion for the mission is required.
Background and Licensing:
● Must possess a valid California driver’s license, and auto insurance.
● Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
