Required Licensure & Certifications:
o BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Per Resource Team)
Skills required:
o An RN needs strong assessment and communication skills, critical thinking, autonomous practice (within scope), teamwork, patient advocacy, and proficiency in using medical technology.
o Examples – Trach care, chest tube mgmt., PIV start skills, PCA, surgical drains, wound care, drips that traveler would manage (Rituxan, thymoglobulin, neostigmine)
Support within the Department:
o CNA: 1 CNA per shift
CNA assists nursing staff by providing direct and indirect patient care, taking vital signs, assisting RNs/providers with procedures, assisting patients with ambulation/ADLs, maintaining a safe environment, and ensuring effective communication.
o Receptionist/HUC? Adjacent unit (Day Hospital) unit secretary answers call bells, communicates with staff, orders supplies, etc.
o Charge nurse: (2) designated day shift Charge RNs
o Phlebotomy? Some phlebotomy blood draws, RNs draw STAT and timed labs
o IV/VAT Team? No, several RNs trained for ultrasound guided IVs
o Resource Nurse? No designated charge RN on nights, but several experienced resource nurses to assist less experienced teammates
o RT 24/7
o Physician (Attendings, residents/APPs) – Yes
o Telemetry monitoring/tech? Telemetry

o EMR: Epic
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
o Monitors: Philips
