Position Purpose
The Building Automation Technician III displays advanced skills and knowledge in the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electronic systems. Performs regular testing, maintenance and troubleshooting of building controls systems and demonstrates skills in specialty systems such as Aircuity, laboratory, and greenhouse controls.
The Building Automation Technician III is an advanced level position for this trade and works independently or under general supervision. The Building Automation Technician III will develop a specific level of skill and proficiency in the execution of duties related to building automation at Dartmouth College.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Minimum of six years of relevant experience with Johnson, Honeywell and Niagara control systems.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.
- Strong understanding of Johnson, Honeywell and Niagara control systems.
- Strong understanding of and ability to troubleshoot pneumatic control systems.
- Computer skills including basic word processing, email, spreadsheets, smartphones or tablets. Ability to use laptop, smartphone, tablet, computer and other electronic devices to work on control systems.
- Ability to use all required tools including all hand and power tools, plus electric multi-meter, light meter, temperature/humidity meter.
- Ability to document and record issues and procedures.
- Ability to read and understand building plans.
- Able to use College data sources to access building plans and O&M manuals.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently under no or minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment and applying strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong customer service skills and good communications skills; ability to communicate work to be performed with college employees and building occupants.
- Ability to perform demanding physical activity, work at heights and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity under physically difficult and/or strenuous conditions.
- Willingness to work overtime when required.
Must have successfully completed the following training prior to performing work to which the training relates:
- Safety (EHS training)
- Laboratory safety/Hazardous Waste Mgmt. training
- Asbestos Awareness Training
- Bloodborne Pathogen Training for Non-Research Employees
- Confined space training
- Lock out/tag out
- Fall Protection
- Electrical Safe work Practices
