CMU Mason / Block Installer

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced CMU Mason / Block Installer for commercial construction projects in New York City.
The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience installing concrete masonry units (CMU), including layout, block setting, mortar work, reinforcing, grouting, and coordination with structural and architectural drawings.
Candidates should be able to work independently, maintain good productivity and workmanship, and follow all project safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Install concrete masonry units (CMU), concrete block walls, partitions, shafts, and related masonry work.
- Perform layout based on architectural and structural drawings.
- Set block accurately for line, level, plumb, elevation, and wall thickness.
- Mix and apply mortar according to project requirements.
- Install reinforcing bars, horizontal joint reinforcement, anchors, ties, lintels, and embeds.
- Install bond beams and reinforced masonry assemblies.
- Coordinate grouting of reinforced CMU cells as required.
- Cut block using masonry saws and other appropriate tools.
- Install CMU around door frames, openings, sleeves, penetrations, and structural components.
- Coordinate work with structural steel, MEP, waterproofing, and other trades.
- Verify dimensions and field conditions before installation.
- Identify drawing conflicts or field issues and report them to the foreman or superintendent.
- Maintain proper joint thickness, alignment, workmanship, and finish quality.
- Perform patching, repairs, and punch-list work as required.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
- Follow all OSHA, NYC DOB, and project-specific safety requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of commercial CMU or masonry installation experience preferred.
- Strong experience with concrete block construction.
- Ability to read architectural and structural drawings.
- Ability to perform field layout and basic construction measurements.
- Knowledge of CMU reinforcement, rebar, joint reinforcement, anchors, bond beams, lintels, and grout.
- Ability to use levels, laser levels, measuring tools, masonry saws, grinders, and standard masonry tools.
- Ability to work efficiently while maintaining proper line, level, and plumb.
- Ability to work on scaffolds and at elevated locations when required.
- Ability to lift and handle masonry materials throughout the workday.
- Reliable attendance and ability to report to projects throughout New York City.
- OSHA 30 and applicable NYC Site Safety Training (SST) credentials are preferred.
- Scaffold User certification is a plus.
- English communication skills are preferred. Bilingual English/Chinese or English/Spanish is a plus.

Work Conditions
- Work will be performed on active construction sites throughout New York City.
- Work may involve scaffolds, ladders, elevated areas, and outdoor conditions.
- The position requires frequent lifting, bending, standing, and handling of masonry materials.
- Overtime, early starts, or weekend work may be required depending on project schedule.
