POSITION:
Seasonal Parks Custodian/Dog Park
LOCATION:
Lafayette Parks and Recreation; Maintenance division
HOURS:
Up to 40 hours/week, variable schedule. Days, evenings, weekends and some holidays may be required.
SALARY:
$15.00-$16.00 per hour
Description
Incumbent serves as Seasonal Custodian/Dog Park position for the City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department
(Department). Maintains cleanliness and appearance of dog park and assigned grounds, including picking up litter, and
emptying trash containers and dog waste stations. Cleans and disinfects dog park waterers, ponds, splash pads, wash
stations, and furniture. Prepares shelters for use, setting up/removing equipment, removing trash, and cleaning.
Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, washing walls and glass
and removing trash. Cleaning and custodial duties can include, but not limited to, cleaning and sanitizing building interiors,
unclogging toilets, changing light bulbs, cleaning furniture, windows or equipment.
Operates various hand tools, such as pressure washers, leaf blowers, brooms, mops, shovels, rakes, or pruners. Keeps
Department equipment, tools and vehicles clean and reports repairs.
REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Education or experience, or both, in custodial maintenance, preferred. Must be 18
years or older and possess a valid driver’s license.
Certification or ability to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid preferred.
Duties involve working comfortably around dogs with different temperaments, exposure to animal bites and zoonotic
diseases as well as dust, dirt, adverse weather, extreme temperatures, cleaning chemicals, and some power tools.
Strong communication skills, responsible, self-motivated and dependable. Knowledge of customer service, communication
and public relation skills. Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional
encounters with irate/hostile persons.
Ability to follow and ensure compliance with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules, including but not
limited to: attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to operate all equipment in the Department, including but not limited to, pressure washers, leaf blowers and various
excavation/cleaning tools ranging from hand tools to motorized equipment.
Maintain a positive professional appearance, demeanor and attitude, and work harmoniously with all contacts in an
enthusiastic and cooperative manner.
