Brief Job Summary: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in duties concerned with sanitation programs in food processing plant by performing the essential job functions. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Following Good Manufacture Practices, OSHA standards, and Sanitation practices.
Essential Job Functions:

Inspects products and equipment for conformity to federal and state sanitation laws and plant standards.

Directs food handlers and production personnel in sanitary and pest-control procedures.

Directs cleaning of equipment and work areas.
-
Inspects premises for unsanitary practices and conditions.
-
Confers with management and production personnel on sanitation problems, and recommends changes in equipment, plant layout, lighting, ventilation, or work practices to improve sanitation standards and purity of product.

Compiles required reports regarding regular inspections, sanitation violations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies.

Plan and prepare employee work schedules.

Routes reports to designated plant personnel.

Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.

Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.

Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
-
Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

Maintains sanitation records.

Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.

Performs activities of workers supervised.

Directly supervises employees in the Sanitation Crew. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Confer with staff to resolve performance and personnel problems, and to discuss company policies.

Screen job applicants, and hire new employees.
- Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, and dismissals.
- Ensure employees wear Personal Protective Equipment

Instruct staff in work policies and procedures, and the use and maintenance of equipment.
- Inspect work performed to ensure that it meets specifications and established standards.
- Perform or assist with cleaning duties as necessary.
- Establish and implement operational standards and procedures for the departments supervised.
- Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required.
- Inventory stock to ensure that supplies and equipment are available in adequate amounts.
- Recommend changes that could improve service and increase operational efficiency.
- Perform grounds maintenance tasks, such as removing snow and mowing the lawn.
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 90 pounds.

Working Conditions:
The employee can be exposed to wet or humid conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat.
Work Schedule:
Work Monday thru Friday, end of production run until sanitation is complete.
Essential Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

Technical college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals as well as the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
