Position Summary: Accounting Director is under the direct supervision of the Executive Recreation Director. Administrative and supervisory position providing leadership to a business operation team and operational responsibilities as assigned. This position is primarily responsible to oversee and maintain the commissions accounting system in accordance with commission policies and municipal accounting standards. This includes payroll and human resources through updated software practices. Prepares documentation for yearly audit, and state/federal agencies. Maintains employee files and financial records. Monitors and administers all employee benefit programs. Working knowledge of the business for cross training as needed. The employee must exercise discretion and independent judgment. Supervises the front desk staff.
Qualifications: Have knowledge of the concepts, objectives, requirements, and philosophy for recreation programming in a business format. Should have a strong understanding of the accounting fundamentals that are critical for success. Have a working knowledge of computers and general office procedures. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Works independently in the absence of supervision. Be able to read and interpret manuals, reports and budgets. Good public relation skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to work effectively in a flexible work environment. Applicant must exercise discretion, independent judgment, and confidentiality. Applicant must have a valid Kansas driver’s license, pass motor vehicle check, able to operate Commission-owned vehicles, and pass a drug screening.

- Assists Board and Recreation Director with forecast planning of long-term goals.
- Payroll and Human Resources
- Prepare documentation for audits and tax compliance
- Track employee hours for KPERS
- Assist with affordable care act compliance
- Assist in managing staff personnel and leaders
- Oversees the hiring process of all staff
- Carries out all policies established by the Commission
- Prepares all documentation for the completion of monthly financial reports (including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and journal entries)
- Prepares all monthly, quarterly and annual federal and state reports
- Recommend the addition, deletion or revision of the agency’s programs and activities.
- Responsible for personnel files and documents
- Responsible for the front desk staff
- Must be able to work with customers and enrollment processes
- Prepares documents for and attends board meetings
- Performs other related duties as deemed necessary
Education/Experience: Graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in recreation, finance, business, or a closely related field and/or combination of work experiences will be considered. EOE
