NEW ENGLAND INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
POSITION: New England Institute of Technology (NEIT), a non-profit, residential, technical university in East Greenwich, RI has an exciting opportunity for a Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA). The VPSA serves as the university’s senior student affairs officer and as a member of the President’s Executive Committee.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to the Executive Vice President
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The VPSA initiates and provides executive leadership for the policies and programs that support a respectful and supportive student experience, student engagement, student retention, and persistence to graduation. The VPSA directly supervises the directors of Student Support Services, Re-enrollment; Career Services; and Residential Life.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. This position is best filled by an individual who recognizes and accepts that NEIT has an effective approach to its delivery of academic programs, student programs and student services that differs from traditional higher education.
2. As a member of the Executive Committee, assist in the implementation and evaluation of programming and planning, including NEIT's Long Range Plan.
3. Provide strategic and operational leadership and fiscal accountability for all functions of the departments that fall under the VPSA: Student Support Services (advising, behavioral health counseling, orientation, disability related accommodation requests, and student conduct); Re-enrollment; Career Services; and Residential Life (including student conduct for residential students).
4. Consistently evaluate student retention by examining retention data and identifying strategies for continuous improvement. Prepare retention reports to be shared with the leadership team, Office of Teaching and Learning, academic department chairs, and student advisors.
5. Prepare and administer an annual student survey to assess students’ overall satisfaction and satisfaction with NEIT’s support services.
6. Oversee the preparation of the VPSA’s departments’ annual budgets.
7. As a member of the Executive Committee, provide regular counsel to the President on the student perspective.
8. Serve as the Administrator on Call for the Office of Residential Life.
9. Be a visible presence on campus and at NEIT events.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, guidance and support to department directors to ensure a successful student experience and compliance with NEIT’s policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of budget development and management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be collaborative and build effective relationships with colleagues, students, and support staff.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, problem-solving and communications skills.
- Outgoing, hands-on, and "roll up the sleeves" mentality; think strategically, execute tactically
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or Higher Education Administration.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team to achieve goals and objectives.
