JOB The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a Principal to work at Independence High School located on the campus of the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) in Elko, NV. NYTC is a 64-bed staff secure facility for male and female youth ages 14 to 18. Located in Northern Nevada, Elko is a growing, progressive small city with an exceptional quality of life. With some of the most majestic views in Nevada and an abundance of recreational activities, Elko is an outdoor paradise. NYTC goal is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values and ways of thinking through education, therapeutic treatment and appropriate medical and mental health services. The position provides counseling, case management, direct clinical services, and behavioral and human services to youth. Incumbents reviews youth charts, complete assessments, prepare treatment plans, discusses youth treatment at case staffing, makes case presentations, makes individual and standardized assessments, integrates and analyzes information from all available sources, and documents quality of care and ensures information is available to other members of the treatment team by completing required forms and reports and maintaining documentation to ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, policies and standards of care. This is a full-time position with an anticipated work schedule of 6a-5p, Monday-Thursday that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. Under general direction of the Superintendent, Principals are responsible for the planning, development, organization, and supervision of comprehensive academic, vocational and physical education programs for adjudicated juveniles assigned to a youth training facility. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Possession of a valid Nevada limited school administrator endorsement OR a professional school administrator endorsement and four years of teaching experience at K-12 in schools approved by the State. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Detailed knowledge of: modern educational theories and principles in an institutional setting.
Working knowledge of: all aspects of school administration and supervision; descriptive statistics such as measures of central tendency in order to develop teaching programs with measured results; current issues in the field of secondary education; core subjects of a high school curriculum; statutes and regulations pertaining to the field of education.
General knowledge of: the principles and practices of budgeting, accounting, and purchasing.
Ability to: maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference, or hostility; write concise, logical, grammatically correct analytical reports to explain various components of the educational program; prioritize workload and accomplish tasks within established time frames; work independently with minimal direct supervision; acquire and analyze information from various sources in order to plan and establish goals, authorize implementation and supervise activities to achieve these goals; effectively communicate ranging from simple language through professional and technical terminology, with students, as well as a variety of specialists and professionals.
