WORK YEAR
The number of hours is not guaranteed. The position is on an as-needed basis, referred to as a Professional Services Agreement (PSA). The educator leads school groups in both locations. The planetarium averages at least two programs per week during the school year. Typical hours for field trips are 8:30-12:30. The educator also conducts about 5 evening programs per year. WES offers field trips from September-October and April-May. The number of field trips varies but typically requires about 12 hours per week.
DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Director of Science, the educator is responsible for presenting the programs and handling other day-to-day tasks. Planetarium programs involve presenting to 25-65 people in an auditorium setting. WES involves leading groups of 14-21 students in science and nature activities. All activities focus on educational science topics.
QUALIFICATIONS:
*Education: Minimum of an AA or equivalent
*Experience working with children
*Experience with public speaking preferred
*Science knowledge preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SCHREDER PLANETARIUM:
1. Present planetarium programs
2. Operate the ScieDome projection system computers, audio, and exhibits
3. Monitor visitor behavior during programs
4. Sell items in the gift shop and report daily earnings
5. Perform other related duties as assigned
6. Communicate program needs to SCOE staff
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHISKEYTOWN ENVIRONMENTAL SCHOOL
1. Lead a field group of students through science activities
2. Manage student behavior
3. Setup and clean up for the day’s activities
4. Working in the creek and hiking (no more than 2 miles)
5. Communicate program needs to SCOE staff
6. Perform other related duties as assigned
