We are opening a brand-new luxury boutique hotel with five uniquely designed suites, an upscale wedding and event venue, and a rooftop bar located in the heart of downtown La Crosse. We are seeking a Director of Operations / General Manager to lead our new boutique hotel, wedding venue, and rooftop bar. This person will oversee all daily operations and also build the systems, staffing, and structure of the business during our pre-opening phase.
Position Overview
The Director of Operations / General Manager oversees all business lines: boutique hotel operations, the wedding/event venue, and the rooftop bar. This role is responsible for team leadership, guest experience, financial performance, vendor relationships, and the creation and maintenance of systems, SOPs, and workflows.
You will work closely with ownership during the final construction/finish phase and then take full operational leadership once we open in early 2026.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Leadership
- Oversee daily operations across hotel, venue, and bar.
- Hire, train, manage, and schedule all staff (front-of-house, bar staff, event support, cleaning teams).
- Build and document all operating procedures, checklists, workflows, and standards.
- Ensure an exceptional guest experience from inquiry to post-stay/event follow-up.
- Maintain a culture of professionalism, hospitality, and accountability.
Hotel (5 Luxury Suites)
- Assist in managing guest communication through CloudBeds
- Oversee housekeeping scheduling, inspections, and room readiness.
- Manage maintenance issues, vendor coordination, and property upkeep.
- Monitor occupancy, pricing strategies, and guest reviews.
Wedding Venue & Events
- Oversee the full event lifecycle, from initial inquiry through day-of operations.
- Manage event team and coordinate with partners, vendors, and clients.
- Ensure seamless event execution, staffing, bar service, and venue readiness.
- Monitor venue revenue, budgets, and profitability.
Rooftop Bar
- Oversee bar operations, inventory management, ordering, licensing compliance, and staffing.
- Ensure consistent quality, guest experience, and financial performance.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety standards, and day-to-day execution.
Financial & Admin
- Manage budgets, forecasting, labor planning, revenue tracking, and cost control.
- Oversee vendor relationships, contracts, scheduling, and ordering.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reporting for ownership.
- Maintain licensing, inspections, and compliance for the hotel, bar, and events.
Pre-Opening Responsibilities (Construction to Opening)
- Work with ownership during the final construction phase.
- Assist with finalizing FF&E, bar inventory, supplies, and operational setup.
- Create SOPs for housekeeping, bar service, events, onboarding, and guest communication.
- Help launch CRM, sales workflows, and venue processes.
- Develop training manuals and onboarding materials.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years in hospitality management, hotel operations, event venue management, or bar/restaurant leadership (multi-unit experience preferred).
- Experience managing teams and creating systems.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Comfortable with technology: hotel PMS systems, CRMs, POS systems, scheduling software.
- Ability to work weekends and evenings based on event schedules.
- Flexible, proactive, and excited to build something new from the ground up.
