American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position requiring at least 2 years of experience, night shift availability, and active IA or Compact RN licensure.

Acute care stepdown/PCU unit within a Level III Trauma hospital
-
22-bed unit serving patients with heart failure, A-fib, respiratory distress, and stroke
-
Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4; nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio

RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
-
RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
-
CPAP management is part of the RN scope on this unit
-
Charge nurse is present each shift and carries a full patient assignment
-
12-hour night shifts (1830–0700); cyclic scheduling
-
Every other weekend required

One major and one minor holiday required

May float to the ICU if the RN has appropriate experience

Epic EMR used in this position

Active IA or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active, pending licenses not accepted

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted

Stepdown or PCU experience required

Epic EMR experience preferred

Must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility — driver's license used to verify permanent address

Must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)

Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Fast-paced unit with high admission and discharge volume — nurses who thrive here are team-oriented, patient-focused, and adaptable

Unit-specific orientation consists of one 12-hour shift in the department

A pass/fail, open-book exam covering skills learned during orientation is administered on the first Friday of orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to continue the assignment

Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them may result to contract termination
-
All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront — additional RTO will not be approved after the process has begun
