The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOA) is a religious not-for-profit organization. “The mission of the Archdiocese is to proclaim the Gospel of Christ, to teach and spread the Orthodox Christian Faith, to energize, cultivate, and guide the life of the Church in the United States of America according to the Orthodox Christian Faith and Tradition.” The Archdiocese has annual revenues of $40M supported by parish contributions and donations from individuals and organizations.
Must-haves
- The Senior Accountant is expected to hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration concentrated in accounting or finance.
- This position is 100% onsite.
Position overview
The Senior Accountant is an integral member of the GOA Finance Department, assisting management with day-to-day financial operations, preparing financial reports, analyzing accounts, and preparing journal entries. The Senior Accountant works under the direct supervision of the Controller and provides support to senior management.
Responsibilities
- Reconcile and analyze balance sheet accounts, especially cash and investments.
- Analyze revenue and expense accounts for proper coding and anomalies
- Prepare monthly journal entries
- Record corporate credit card activity and gather receipts from users
- Distribute monthly budget-to-actual and grant status reports to department heads
- Prepare schedules for special events and fundraising campaigns as needed
- Work with the Controller and CFO on the month-end close of the financial statements
- Prepare schedules for the year-end close of the financial statements
- Assist with the annual audit and prepare supporting schedules
- Assist with year-end 1099 reporting
- Ad hoc requests as needed
Skills and Specifications
- Knowledge of the basic accounting principles and practices applicable to not-for-profit organizations
- Strong organizational skills; ability to handle multiple projects and requests at the same time
- Proactive approach to assignments and responsibilities
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills
- Proficient in technology with advanced command of Excel functions including pivot tables
- Awareness of data security and privacy protocols
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of and experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT (preferred)
