STEM Instructor (After-school Program)
Pay: $27–$35 per hour
Hours: 20 hrs per week
Location: On-site, Philadelphia, 19139
Starts: October 2026
Who we are
Featured in the New York Times, Urban Dream Chasers (DBA Level Up Philly) is a Philadelphia-based 501(c)(3) that has become the largest afterschool holistic youth mentoring program in the state of Pennsylvania and beyond. Level Up Philly currently serves over 3,000 young people weekly—from 151 different elementary, middle, and high schools city-wide. In an effort to combat juvenile poverty and food insecurity, Level Up also cooks and serves some 800 delicious meals daily.
Young people come to us after school and stay because someone here knows their name. Our STEM Lab is already built and running — drones, robotics, coding, and 3D printing. We are looking for a dynamic STEM Lab Instructor to join our team.
What you'll do
You'll teach the sessions. You won't be writing them from scratch and you won't be waiting on equipment. Our Curriculum Specialist builds the plans; your job is to make them come alive in a room full of teenagers.
- Run hands-on sessions in drone operation, robotics, coding, and 3D printing
- Keep a room of teenagers focused, curious, and safe around real equipment
- Read the room in real time and adjust your pacing when something isn't landing
- Give young people direct, useful feedback on what they build
- Maintain the lab equipment and tell us what we need
- Collaborate with the Curriculum Specialist to refine lesson plans
What we're looking for
You know this technology well enough to fix it when it breaks in front of a room. You like teenagers — the loud ones too. You can run a room on respect and accountability rather than volume.
We'd love to see at least one of the following:
- Hands-on experience with drones, robotics, coding, or 3D printing — job, hobby, competition, or classroom
- Experience teaching, coaching, mentoring, or camp counseling with youth
- A degree or current study in engineering, computer science, or a related field
- Experience in a makerspace, FIRST Robotics team, or a coding program
Deep in one area beats shallow in all four. If you're a drone and 3D printing person, apply. If you're a coding and robotics person, apply. We'll build the team around what you're great at.
What you get
- A lab that already exists — drones, printers, robotics kits, all here
- Session plans written for you, so your prep time goes into teaching, not paperwork
Clearances
This role requires three Pennsylvania clearances upon hiring:
- Child Abuse History Clearance
- State Police Criminal Record Check
- FBI fingerprint check.
How to apply
Apply today! It takes about five minutes. Tell us about one thing you've built or taught.
