We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Middle School Special Education Teacher specializing in Math and Science within an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) environment. This role offers an exciting opportunity to inspire and empower students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities such as autism and developmental disabilities. Responsibilities
- Design and deliver specialized math and science lessons tailored to diverse learning styles, ensuring alignment with state standards and educational regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with co-teachers, therapists, specialists, and families to develop, implement, and review IEPs that meet each student’s unique needs.
- Manage classroom behavior using evidence-based strategies and behavior management techniques for students with disabilities.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate various learning disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ensuring accessibility for all students.
- Utilize learning technology and instructional tools to enhance lesson engagement, facilitate differentiated instruction, and support literacy education alongside math/science instruction.
- Conduct ongoing assessments, including standardized testing preparations, progress monitoring, and formative evaluations to inform instruction.
- Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, behavior interventions, IEP implementation, and compliance with special education law.
- Engage in regular teacher collaboration sessions for lesson planning, curriculum development, and sharing best practices in special education.
- Provide tutoring and academic advising tailored to individual student goals while fostering a supportive classroom environment that encourages independence.
Qualifications
- Degree in Special Education, Education, or related field
- Valid teaching certification/license in special education
- Proven classroom experience working with students with disabilities
- Strong knowledge of curriculum development for diverse learners, including designing specialized curricula aligned with IEP goals.
- Experience in IEP development/implementation
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with colleagues, families, therapists, and administrators.
- Proficiency in learning technology tools, lesson planning software, and educational assessment methods.
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies based on individual learning styles while maintaining high standards of educational excellence.

ABOUT US: We are a small, progressive middle school (340 students) in District 13. Two years ago, we moved to a beautiful, newly built building in the heart of downtown Brooklyn. We proudly serve a diverse student body, and that diversity is a point of celebration for us. We are committed to practices, and every teacher leads an Advisory. We have a unique program called Explorations where students pause their normal schedule to engage in a deep, interdisciplinary research project to answer an essential question. ABOUT SPECIAL EDUCATION AT BRIDGES: We are committed to excellent special education services. We have two ICT classes on each grade level, two self-contained classes, and a D75 inclusion program. We departmentalize our teachers as much as possible into Humanities and STEM subject specialties.

COMMUTE: We are located in downtown Brooklyn, right behind the Barclays Center. Our subway is Atlantic Center, with almost every train hubbing through there. Additionally, the G and C and the LIRR are also nearby. Please note that we do not have any parking.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
